Profile: Marcus Cor Von

Prior to wrestling Monty Brown found success in football, as an All-American at Ferris State University, a Super Bown XXVIII player for the Buffalo Bills, and an inside linebacker for the New England Patriots. He went on to train as a pro wrestler with Dan Severn and Sabu, making his in-ring debut in May 2001.

In 2002, he made several appearances for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, but didn't start full-time until March 2004 when he returned to attack the Insane Clown Posse. Nicknamed "The Alpha Male," he became billed from the Serengeti and took on a few wild animal mannerisms while naming his finisher the Pounce. He rose through the ranks as a babyface, unsuccessfully challenging Jeff Jarrett for the NWA World Heavyweight Title at Final Resolution in January '05, before turning heel at Destination X by helping Jarrett retain his title against Diamond Dallas Page.

He remained in a stable with Jeff until late August when he broke out on his own, setting his sights back on the World Title and feuding alone with babyfaces like Jeff Hardy and Christian Cage, until realigning himself with Jarrett in December. At Destination X the following year he failed to take the championship from Cage.

In November 2006, Brown signed with World Wrestling Entertainment, and WWE announced the deal on its official website, citing Monty's football past but of course ignoring his wrestling experience in TNA. The following January however, when he debuted on the ECW brand, he had adopted the name Marquis (changed the following week to Marcus) Cor Von whilst keeping the "Alpha Male" nickname. He soon became a member of The New Breed faction alongside Elijah Burke, Matt Striker and others, and made his WrestleMania debut that April with an eight-man tag team loss to the group's rivals, The ECW Originals.
