Profile: Scott Steiner
From 1989 to 1998, Scott Steiner achieved legendary tag team success as one half of The Steiner Brothers. Alongside older brother Rick, Scott dominated the tag team scene in World Championship Wrestling, holding several NWA and WCW tag team championships, as well as New Japan's IWGP World Tag Team Titles. They also won the WWF (now WWE World) Tag Team Titles in 1993 during a stint in the World Wrestling Federation, and even made appearances for Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1995.
Credited for popularizing the hurricanrana - a/k/a Frankensteiner - in North America, Scott enjoyed a brief singles run in 1991, winning the WCW World Television Title, but would not come into his own as a solo star until turning heel on his brother in '98, joining the New World Order and changing his image. Always a powerful athlete, Scott nonetheless became more ground-based in his repertoire, eschewing top rope moves and favoring his new Steiner Recliner camel clutch over the Frankensteiner. Styling himself as an irresistable stud to women, he adopted the nickname "Big Poppa Pump" and emphasized his muscular appearance. In 1999, he reclaimed the TV Title and added the US Title to his resume. In November 2000, he defeated Booker T for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, which he would lose back to Booker on the final episode of Monday Nitro the following March.
After winning and later vacating the World Wrestling All-Stars World Heavyweight Title and making a one-off appearance in Japan teaming with his brother, Steiner made his return to World Wrestling Entertainment as a babyface singles performer in late 2002. He feuded with World Heavyweight Champion Triple H over two pay-per-views, failing to win the title, before feuding and then teaming with Test, turning heel. In 2004 he was sidelined with a foot injury, and negotiated a release from his WWE contract. Once healed, he returned to the ring on the indy circuit before joining Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in March 2006, aligning himself with top heel Jeff Jarrett.
Serving principly as powerful back-up for others, Steiner has nonetheless made several overtures towards TNA's top title and has proven to be a treacherous ally. With high profile feuds against Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle to his name, Steiner has provided face recognition to the company while making up for his less stellar performances in WWE.
