WWE Judgment Day 2008 Preview
Posted by on 05/14/2008
WWE presents Judgment Day live on PPV on Sunday, May 18 at 8 PM ET. This event will be broadcast live from the Qwest Center in Omaha, NE. If you do not have PPV capability, you can order the show on WWE.com or watch it at a WWE Blast Area.
The Matches:
Steel Cage Match for the WWE Championship: Champion Triple H vs. Randy Orton
Rules of the match: The ring will be surrounded by a steel cage. A wrestler can win this match by pin fall, submission, or by escaping the cage and having their two feet touch the arena floor.
Events leading to this match: Triple H ended Randy's six month title reign at last month's Backlash PPV. Since October, the WWE Championship has gone from Orton to Triple H back to Orton and is back around the waist of Triple H.
World Heavyweight Championship: The Undertaker vs. Edge
Events leading to this match: SmackDown GM Vickie Guerrero stripped the Undertaker of the title for using "that choke hold" even though the move was not banned until after he was stripped of the title. Edge has lost to the Undertaker at the previous two PPV events by submitting to "that choke hold". Coincidentally, Edge is the fiancé of Vickie Guerrero.
JBL vs. John Cena
Events leading to this match: During the fatal four-way main event at Backlash, John Cena eliminated JBL from the match via submission. JBL is out for revenge and blaming Cena for costing him his "date with destiny" last month.
Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels
Events leading to this match: At Backlash, Chris Jericho was the referee when Shawn Michaels beat Batista. That match ended with Shawn getting a knee injury and then beating Batista. Shawn claims that he was really hurt while Chris has belittled Shawn in public for faking the injury and playing possum to get his win. Shawn finally convinced Chris it was a real injury only to admit he faked it.
WWE Tag Team Championship: Champions The Miz and John Morrison vs. Kane and CM Punk
Events leading to this match: Kane and CM Punk are the two most successful singles wrestlers in ECW. Kane is the current ECW Champion and CM Punk is in possession of the Money in the Bank guaranteed title shot. The two men successfully teamed together for the first time a few weeks ago and have now challenged the tag team champions.
Women's Title: Champion Mickie James vs. Beth Phoenix vs. Melina
Events leading to this match: Mickie won the title from Beth Phoenix. In a championship rematch, Mickie retained the title when Melina tried to hit Mickie with her boot but accidentally hit her then-friend Beth Phoenix. Since then, Beth and Melina have come to blows over that incident.
